Types of Lottery Licences

Lottery Licences will be issued for individuals and organisations who wish to provide relevant lottery products or services within Ireland.

Examples of Relevant Lotteries for both Remote and In-Person Lotteries include

  • Bingo

  • Lottery style competitions

The GRAI may issue the following lottery licences authorising the licensee to provide:

  1. In-person Lottery: (e.g. a bingo hall)

    • from one or more premises in the State where a person attends at the premises to participate in the relevant lottery

  2. Remote Lottery: (e.g. a website offering online bingo)

    • Lottery activities that are accessible by remote means, which is via Internet, Telephone, or Television.

  3. Hybrid Lottery Licence: In-person and remote lottery activities,

    • from one or more premises in the State where a person attends at the premises to participate in the relevant lottery

    • and by remote means

The GRAI will also accept applications for Once-Off Lotteries. This is available where the lottery will be held in a calendar year during which year, the applicant will not hold another such lottery.
