Spot Your Triggers
Recognising the triggers that make you want to gamble is an important step in addressing gambling harm.
Keep a Journal
Start by documenting your gambling in a journal, and reflect on the following questions each time:
What were my thoughts before I gambled?
What did I feel before I gambled?
What type of gambling did I take part in?
How long did I spend gambling?
How much money did I lose?
What were my thoughts after I gambled?
What did I feel after I gambled?
Take it Further
Once you’ve identified some patterns, consider taking the Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI), a short self-assessment that can help you understand the risk of your gambling habits.
